Those who control the narrative control reality. Imagine a hero is murdered for speaking truth to power and then the same authority is complicit in erasing her memory.
In my book, the evil Authority murders rebels in plain sight of everyone but lies through a complicit media about the details. A murder by secret death squads become an internal domestic struggle, suicide, or random robbery which inexplicably results in a gruesome death. The ignorant public consume these misdirection at face value. Other rebels know exactly who was behind the death. People who think of joining the rebellion are alerted to the danger of potential resistance. Finally, members of the government that enable evil domination of their fellow citizens get the message that total control of the narrative gives the oligarchy complete protection. Only the most brave employees of the control system make the decision to join the fight. Revealing the truth is as dangerous as taking up arms. The oligarchy will ruthlessly crush any dissent. Truthfully reporting on events becomes a crime. The bureaucratic control system is relentless is pursuing people who speak truth to power, whether your an elected politician, journalist or just regular person posting a note.
This explains why I have so many characters in my book that die simply because they showed some level of defiance to the Authority. In Britain, it is a crime to speculate on the death of Anne Widdecombe. Comments on social media will get you arrested. Ask yourself why the British legal system is so incredibly fragile, that a Facebook post or tweet on X could bring it all crashing down. In my book, I expose why such simple questioning of events is absolutely dangerous to the Authority. In fact, its not the legal system that is fragile but the narrative that controls people’s conception of reality.
The smallest crack in a damn can result in a catastrophic failure of the entire infrastructure.
